Morality and how it is subject to the vagaries of time

A primary concerns in providing a history of morality is to understand how certain values (pity, selflessness, etc.), which might be associated with ‘herd’ morality, became values.

‘Morality’, both its scope and its psychology (e.g. conscience, guilt), is a product of historical development. We can’t understand a moral value or psychological state unless we use history, because that value or state frequently often inherits several different meanings from different times in the past.
ancient Rome refers to the Roman civilization from the founding of the city of Rome in the 8th century BC to the collapse of the Western Roman Empire in the 5th century AD,

Through understanding the  history of morality, Roman times Founded27 BC

So we can we can distinguish the different meanings and different feelings aroun morals and see how and why they changed over time.

In turn, this helps us to understand that there are alternatives to these values and state
