There has always been an essential humanism is under suspicion

Chomsky's epistemology (the theory of knowledge, especially with regard to its methods, validity, and scope, and the distinction between justified belief and opinion).that there has always existed an essential humanism is countered by a Foucaldian (Foucault) hermeneutics (the branch of knowledge that deals with interpretation)  of suspicion,  i.e from where does this 'humanism' arrive, what are the etymologies of 'ethics' morality' 'values'

Following on fro that it could be argued that Enlightenment principles of  of 'reason' and 'rationality' are historically tools of power:
'come on, you are not being reasonable;
'be rational?'
i.e adopt my mode of thinking which is 'higher'
well, who says it is 'higher'?
'I do.'

You get the picture - far better to be suspicious of these 'givens'.
