I always thought I was a 'strong' man but this morning I put my head on my forearm
and sobbed like a woman - like that woman I knew and loved for so many years.
I have fallen on hard time you see, so outside the Cathedral with palm outstretched I stand
my wondering hand offered for common Alms... well, it's Christmas
and then in my dirty palm
A Stranger with a velvet collar to his coat pressed a crinkling Kingdom into my trembling palm
a £10, yes, a tenner.
So now, outsde the Cathedral I bewildered stand - as rich as Croesus and will sob no more.
