You watch people on the train or in the street. They are listening to music on their headphones, at the same time they are texting on their mobiles, at the same time they are talking to their companions. They are in three places at one time. But they are deceived in this belief, it is an illusion of immediacy, to use a German idiom they are  falsch verbunden, (falsely connected).
