The Moon as bleak, the Earth as hospitable, depends on the amount of knowledge one has

The Americas were once considered a bleak land by those ancient explorers, as perhaps was Cambridge to the Romans.  The view of what terrain is bleak depends on the amount of knowledge one has about a certain terrain.
Equally, the view held of the Earth as hospitable and the moon as bleak, depend on how much knowledge has been accumulated. By the time human colonies are on the moon
As to the view of the Earth as hospitable, the Earths’ biosphere has hardly been friendly to humans; earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricances, climate change and the risk of extinction through an impact event of a large meteorite, asteroid, comet, or other celestial object has been the fare served up to us by the less than attentive Gaia that  goddess of all creation.
