Psychoanalysis and enlightened masochism

After Freud some argue that Sex, in  became a form of unhappiness.
It followed as in  and in all oppressive regimes, misery began to seem truthful

This is one of the sadder ironies of psychoanalysis since Freud had shown us, perhaps better than anyone apart from Nietzsche, why self-denying, self-punishing theories, ideologies of deprivation – are always morally prestigious. It follows that for some people unhappiness is a moral obligation; and the line of least resistance. Is this the end result of a of what some term of a Freudian legacy,  a kind enlightened masochism or Jewish Buddhism, where we all become ascetics out of fear of crossing that line.
