The notion of 'reality; abandon it.

Reality… they should think of another word for it. Quantum theorists tell us to
abandon the very notion of reality when considering phenomena at the scale of particles,
atoms or even molecules, so what I am really trying to say or talk about, is the nature of
reality. The reality is no one knows.
I can‟t explain „reality‟. QM is not something you get closure on. To comprehend it
requires a revision of our understanding; you have to think on a different conceptual scale.

EUGENE: What kind of conceptual scale|?

HUGO: Things on a very small scale behave like nothing that you have any direct
experience about… things that are roughly 10,000,000,000 times smaller than a typical
human being. And they not behave like clouds, or billiard balls, or like anything that you
have ever seen. But everything including you and I are made up of these minute things…so,
so…our common sense notion of what we see is what there is has to be challenged. The
knowingness of the viewer, that there is reality, seeing things with such certainty needs to be
skewered. Reality is not out there to be found. So how we view our world, the world of
macroscopic objects: cities, grains of sand, etc and...

EUGENE: You and I?

HUGO: Yes, you and I, has to be tempered, revised. I find it fantastically releasing,
I just don‟t get why people don‟t grasp at this. Anyway, all that arrogance or ignorance of
standing on some Archimedean rock called ‘Nowhere’ and objectively viewing the world,
forget it.

EUGENE: We can‟t view the world objectively?

HUGO: But what is objectivity but a taking of the high ground. If one person sees a
feathered thing that waddles and deigns to call it a „duck‟ It is subjective; if one hundred
other people also agree to call it a „duck‟ it goes from being subjective to objective through a

kind of linguistic consensus. But this is inter-subjective agreement
