Does it offer up a promised land towards which we should set our course,
or a plangent (reverberating( lament for what can never be?
The wider the gap between it and us, the more it seems like a threnody (lament/dirge) for dashed hope;
Yet the narrower the gap, the less obvious it is that the fantasy is something to wish for
