Sheila and her irrepresible asides

We were at dinner, it was quite a smart Tratorria in what was termed Soho's  'Little Italy'.

I always knew Sheila was someone who spoke her mind and was given to irrepressible asides about people’s appearance and speculation about their personal lives. Others didn't, but I always found it a charming trait.

However as we sat there in London's Soho and I looked at the appetising veal escalope beautifully served up.

At the next table there was two types with a young blonde.  They were talking about what they had seen on televison.

Then   I heard her exclaim in that voice that was just that smidgeon too loud, "I always find that people who watch television are slightly mentally retarded, don't you?"

The three heads at the next table swivelled round.  Subsequentially there was a thankful quiet from Sheila for about 10 minutes and then..."How old could that little blonde number be over there with those two hoods?"

The three heads in unison shot up from their grazing and gave us an icy stare.

The rest of the meal was unbearable.
