Secularism drawing its reasoning from Religion

The fulfillment and completion..of Enlightenment secularism has not happened. And there has been

a recent upturn of interest in religion and theology among contemporary continental philosophers.

And there is a certain irony involved in deconstruction's escape from the alleged conceptual
abstractions of metaphysics only to find itself advocating a set of religious abstractions and
formalisms, derived, but quite distant from, concrete traditions of faith. There is a serious
question here as to whether such views are not parasitic upon that residue of religious symbolism
from which they derive whatever vitality they possess.
