All appeals to the'inner self', conscience, soul, your spirit, your character that we deem
to be ourselves, are appeals to a fiction, a fiction of a
fixed, inner, essenial mind. There is nothing fixed, inner or essential, our 'minds' are a constantly ebbing and flowing performance that is dependent on our bodies and our brains.
