The unintended consequences of 'Liberal Imperialism'

Why is it that a-thousand-and-one liberal schemes fail: the 'one' big 'idea' being the European Union. Here, good men, were driven by an ideal, that the 2nd World War that ravaged Europe

would never happen again, if countries across Europe joined hands for the common good, that would be bound by a 'reasonable' economic pact.

Of course this is noble and  right in theory, yet the problem is that it suffers too many unintended consequences in practice.

The same could be said to apply to liberal welfare schemes, in practise they  can end up creating more poverty.

A rather harsh term for the proponents of such thinking is 'liberal imperialism'.
