Anthropocentric views would regard humans as the central element of the
universe, or interpret reality exclusively in terms of human values.
Yet, so fruitful has been the abandonment of anthropocentric
ideas, that the opposing view, anti-anthropocentrism. has been elevated
to a universal principle. Some claim that it has morphed into
a principle of mediocrity? i.e. we are chemical scum in the cosmic
suburbs and of no significance in the cosmic scheme of things.
I am sure I am missing something, but is this view itself, 'chemical scum'
promulgated by Professor Stephen Hawking, parochial?
