A Single Voice Cannot be Heard Unless...
A single voice can make
itself heard only by blending into the complex choir of other voices already in
place. This is true not only of literature but of all discourse. The genre that
most favours this polyphony (arranged for several voices) is the novel
.Intentionally or not
all discourse is in dialogue with prior discourse on the same subject, as well
as with discourse yet to come whose reaction it anticipates.
