When one writes an introduction a preface one seldom thinks of thinks of this preface as having a deceptive status.
For one thing prefaces are usually written last of all and placed up front as a gesture of authorial command.
They call it a summarizing function, a power of abstracted systematic statement, which denies the very process of activity and thought involved in the project of writing.
And introductions/prefaces also subvert, in a deconstructive fashion, the authority of the text that may follow.
