THE GROWTH OF THE HAPPINESS INDUSTRY
THE GROWTH OF THE HAPPINESS INDUSTRY, especially in the patholgoically confessional
United States has had significant adverse effects of our ability to make critical self-searching.
I am an alcoholic and I have a disease (but this is medically unproven) and naming it a disease is convenience rather that a fact.
The same applies to Sexaholics Foodyaholics, and all the other aholics which are (scientifically) all bollocks
excuse the lapse into rhyme.
A growing number of eminent psychologists now believe that the 'feel good' mindset from the self-help industry has backfired, creating a culture where uncomfortable feelings are not addressed but shunted into the side railings and conveniently explained away, as I have a disease.
As an addendum to all this is the self-esteem industry, children are heaped with praise to bolster their self-esteem. No one is going to bring up the possibility/reality that the self does not exist, it is a ghost. a phantom.
We have medicalised our feelings into diseases.
I blame America, that adolescent culture, for 'Disneyfying' the world.
