To Barcelona, a great town, vibrant spacious (unlike claustrophobic London) and haring around
museums to show teenage daughters Gaudi's Cathedral, Juan Miro's gallery and the Picasso museum.
One has to say a little Gaudi/Miro/Picasso goes a long way. When I look at these artists I know that
reality can't be conveyed it must be mediated.
So the mass, hordes, tourists, in their conception of what great art is they fix on one moment or one model of artistic practice, to ontologise it as art as such, and then to use this reified token for their own conceptual schemes.
Of course on this side one's criticism is undermined too. It is compromised, in the first instance, by its arrogant posture of demystification. So! I am an arrogant arriviste.
