We know why the Geiger Counter will click but when?

Click. Click. Click. What makes the Geiger Counter click. A Geiger counter, is a type of particle detector that measures ionizing radiation..

And we all know what makes it click. But in terms of measurement at what point does it click? -  it could be a second it could be a thousand million years. Here we have the problem of measurement of the micro world (particle atoms etc of which we are all made).

I am confident that this crude voyage into uncertainty of micro physics will bring a smile to those who far better instructed than me.
