When 'Madness' and 'Unemployment' were regarded as the Same Thing.

As early as Elizabethan times 'madness and 'unemployment' were regarded  as the same thing, for in the  advent of 'Industrial Capitalis 'physical sickness' was defined as the inability to go to work.

And so it came to pass that major social institutions such as asylums,workhouses, penitentiaries, hospitals and even schools came to resembledthe factory systems in layout and internal disciplinary organisation. Foucault  (1965)  argues that even the rehabilitation and  socialisation of the convict was akin to the market economy and iindustrial work discipline.
