Welcome to the world of “functional neurological disorders” (FND) and their strange symptoms which affect voluntary motor skills or sensitive and sensory functions but are explained neither by a lesion visible with routine examinations, nor by a neurological pathology. TNFs are not exceptional: “They concern at least 10% of neurology consultations” , indicates Professor Béatrice Garcin, neurologist at Avicenne University Hospital (Bobigny), founder of the TNF unit currently being created. She campaigns for better training of doctors in these particular disorders. Yet their victims often wait four to seven years before a diagnosis is made.
