Morality is culturally relative

 What was progressive in the 1790s was in fact reactionary by the 1840s. 

If one want to get a take on morality, look to pre Christian times;
Rome and the high minded Greeks,   who set the standard for us all
yet thought it perfectly normal to have a slave society.
