Commenting on NYT opinion pieces, are like marking papers of not very bright students

In this well intentioned appeal or overture to the soul of Americans the writer states;  ‘...This is not complicated! Just nominate a decent, ‘sane’ person...’ the inference here being that Trump is insane. This is not the kind of assumption that heals America when half the US population believe Trump is eminently sane. Alarmist Mayday signalling on the possibility of a Trump election is conjectured as, ‘It will be an overthrow of all the norms, values, rules and institutions that we cherish.’ It is the presumption in ‘we’ that is troubling here and the class entitlement encoded therein. Although this well written article was no doubt intended to energise and bring balm to the American soul, it is hardly a poultice and its a priori type assumptions will do little to bring healing  to the other half of current American political division.
