In our era of networking and social media, of ‘ghosting’ and attention-grabbing individuation, we’re anxious about our ability, metaphorically and literally, to get the requisite ‘likes’.
We now value a capacity or whatever the quality is that guarantees social inclusion – but for strategically emoting or performing ‘soft skills’. Twenty-first century children are told they need to get with the 'programme'. The 'programme' is also AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) speak, and other (admittedly successful) group think 'programmes'
