Marx pointed the way to an approach that is
scarcely found today. The importation of low-paid labor is a tool of oppression
that divides workers and benefits those in power.
The proper response,
therefore, is not abstract moralism or ad about welcoming all migrants as an imagined
act of charity, but rather addressing the root causes of migration in the
relationship between large and powerful economies and the smaller or developing
economies from which people migrate.
