If you ever go to Swamplandia do not be surprised to discover that some of those amphibious dwellers are of a Democratic sentiment.
Journalist: 'When do you think you will get out of this Swamp, I mean it is very fetid, I mean really rancid here' (I could tell by her choice of words she was 'educated')
Senator: 'What Swamp are you talking I am not in any Swamp'
at which point he submerged and swam away.
You may spot them, although camouflaged in green moss and entangled in weed. If you visit Swamplandia you will find it is a vast waterway and is usually sited on a coastal plain to accommodate the coastal elites.
When I last visited Swamplandia I overheard an exchange between a visiting journalist and a politician,
We both waded ashore, where I noted the journalist jotting down a Jane Austen apercu 'Some people believe they are living in light when they are living in darkness,' ('educated' and 'well read' too I smirked).
I asked her what papers she wrote for, 'New York Times' she shot back triumphantly.
We shook hands and parted company, I watched her go; her confident gait full of the well meaning ontology and sovereignty of individualism, clutching her now sodden notebook with what she believed was her epistemologically certain jottings, yes, off to lucubrate her article under lamplight, she had that determined look of am emissary, I thought she is off to write her article with what she supposed was a defiant egalitarianism, replete with the self-consciously plebeian language of the people and strained attempts at bawdiness to reach das volk and thought God Bless her sweet innocence and her naivety.
