'The socialist, by contrast, believes that making things free makes people free.' But nothing is 'free', somewhere, someone along the chain so has to pay for it.
For something to be 'free'it would have to be causa sui, (self created) and nothing is.
Like reason, virtue, ethics, morals, they have all been derived out of something as has socialism and its genesis, which I would submit is a free ride under a quasi religious umbrella. Nirvana, Zanadu, Paradise, Utopia, Eden Heaven, only exist because they can never be attained,
I think the catastrophic history that Socialism is stained with, indicates that Socialism is also an unobtainable Utopia.
