The word ‘evil’, unlike the words wicked or bad, is something of an exception:
Evil has to be treated as an out-there phenomenon, like electro magnetism.
Evil jemmies itself into the mind via metaphors
of toxicity or pestilence, or with quaint whimsy, as in Hammer Horror films
