The Contrarian SUBMITS THAT we should not indulge in an orgy of indiscriminate cooperation; welfare for all etc IDEOLOGIES ARE DANGEROUS, SAY SOMETHING LIKE NATIONALISM, HOWEVER THE CONTRARIAN SUBMITS that attitudes evolved for a small scale social world (our ancestors on the savannah) and 

THAT A LIBERAL IDEOLOGY IS DANGEROUS IN THE FOLLOWING WAY

IN THAT ITS REACH FOR THE MORAL HIGH GROUND IT OCCUPIES THE SPACE VACATED BY RELIGION AND EXCITES, THE LIBERAL TO FEEL IT IS A WAY TO REDEMPTION, OR THE ULTIMATE PURPOSE TO LIFE, OR A CONSOLATION FOR ALL WOES.  yET THE lIBERAL IN THIS WAY

SEEKS WHAT HIS/HER PHILOSOPHY CANNOT PROVIDE.

The contrarian has a predilection for satirising liberal solemnity.
