Long term human survival may depend on us living on the Moon

Image result for living on the moonDeutsch endorses Stephen Hawking's view that we would be wise to colonise space because the asteroid that will certainly come one day might be beyond even the capacity of our nuclear weapons.

So space colonisation should not be sidelined as an idle fantasy, however with no atmosphere or ecosystem we would have to live in bubbles. But Deutsch convinces me that we could colonise the moon and, after a while, that this life would seem natural.
On the surface, this seems an anthropic speculation that gives us more importance than we deserve in the cosmic scheme of things

And there is a beautiful and almost mystical irony in all this: that it was precisely by means of the Scientific Revolution, it was precisely by means of accepting that we are not the center of the universe, that we became the center of the universe.

Do so and lose your parochial blinkers forever - for the extent of all possible knowledge is essentially unbounded
