Hostility tends to make people sound more powerful than they really are. add into the mix the ferocity of  prejudices, then add grandiose claims for their ‘cultural centrality, add a soupcon of complementary hatred and you have got headlines, especially if 95 per cent of the media is shouting for you.  Nothing like sounding embattled, or outraged, to make your case.
