Suppose it is obvious that someone in need should be helped.
- 1. A utilitarian will point to the fact that the consequences of doing so will maximize well-being,
- 2. a deontologist to the fact that, in doing so the agent will be acting in accordance with a moral rule such as “Do unto others as you would be done by”
- 3. and a virtue ethicist to the fact that helping the person would be charitable or benevolent.
So if you choose 1 does that make the other 2 wrong, or juggle then about like a three card trick
to determine which one is right.
Or, are they all wrong, and 1,2 and 3 are not facts but opinions?
My personal view is that they are all wrong...but that is not a fact it is an opinion.
