Are the media the real terrorists?

Althusser, For Marx (1979) argued that the ‘subject’ was always being interpolated, by ideological state apparatuses.⁸ The media could be said to be one of those apparatuses. It interpolates, or more often than not, megaphones the subject constantly. It is a background noise which you can never turn off. It constantly suggests how to think and what to think. In this respect a present day self becomes a set of nodes through which institutional power relations are transmitted. In effect we have become terminals. In this regard, although coming perilously close to a rant, some even go as far as to say the real virtual terrorists are the media.
