This Clapham omnibus view may be held by many, indeed I have a sympathy for it myself.
However the question of Religion inciting violence would appear to lie deeper than the knee jerk.
What is endemic in the human species because human need for group solidarity always implies the exclusion of others, outsider who may threaten the group.

The ideological narrative is that there is a connection between Religion and the secular the boundaries between these two being very porous
There is no longer any universal way of defining religion, other modes of thinking have taken over
