How little comes back to us from the external world. If we bluntly deny those halcyon realms heaven/paradise we stand alone in stark, individuated self-hood. In this stark realisation we are less attuned to the social apparatus that confounds our daily lives, if we are lucky we may become remote to the strategies and social institutions we were born into (and therefore had no hand in creating/designing). If you think like this you could be in any era, say therelational modes of Georgian England. And no bad thing.
