Egypt undoing Islamist spell

"They promised us that Islam is the solution..."
said one demonstrator in Tahir Square,
and he went on ; "...but under Muslim Brotherhood we saw neither Islam or a solution."
Hazem Kandil points out, "the country that invented Islamism may well be on its way
to undoing the spell."

Millions of Egyptians have refused to accept the Muslim Brotherhood's conflation of
Islamism and Islam.

Recently Newsweek ran an article by Hayri Abaza and Soner Cagaptay entitled “Is it Islamic or Islamist.”

The article’s purpose was to exhort Westerners to distinguish between the religion of Islam and an “extremist” version of Islam which the authors call “Islamist.”
