Eagles' wings are (naturally) designed for soaring ie they have and end purpose, a teleology.
More germane to us perhaps is Jeffrey Weeks assertion that the teleology's of oppression have only stood the old teleology's of progress on their head.
Both are essentialist, reductionist and ahistorical in their implication that the instincts have either a ‘basic biological mandate’ (my sexual drive is driven by biology) or an innate ethical propensity for good or evil in their expression (we instinctively know, innately know, a la Kant, what is good)
When people talk of progress tacit in the reference to such a word is that 'things are getting better'
ie an innate ethical propensity or a basic biological mandate, (the Eagle's wings)
Such notions should not be left unchallenged.
