Can't win, won't win if you are seen as party of older, white people

Romney’s fate has reminded us that a Conservative Party can’t win if it’s seen
as just the party of older white people.

If one cares to look at John Gray’s Two Faces of Liberalism, published 12 years ago
but still the best primer on complex modern societies.
“Pluralism,” Gray argues, is not an option to be weighed up, but a reality all around us:

“an historical fate”. We already inhabit communities in which many ways of life are commingled, which are “morally multi-lingual”.

According to Gray, the challenge in such societies is not utopian but the pursuit
of “modus vivendi'. In the face of a reality we must all devise a way to live.

Obama was completely at ease with – indeed, embodied – the heterogeneity of the contemporary world and he dropped anchor, by just being himself  in these demographics.

The Illiberal Elite may seethe against the Liberal Elite (Harvard, Yale, Google. Microsoft et al)
however they have to come to terms with modern day demographics for we no longer live in the days of this good guy

There are ohter views as always (see below)
