The mise en scene of madness

Through  the window of their second floor apartment - two friends observe the 'ordinary' everyday events of a London evening. Let us call them EUGENE and BRON.

EUGENE: Look at that woman,
BRON: Oh her, she‟s quite sweet, gave me a lift to the station the other day; car is like a
mobile church, it's full of iconography, crucifixes; rosary beads...
EUGENE: Look at him coming out…uh huh, he‟s forgotten something. Not in that pocket or that one...oh dear he looks so distressed.
BRON: It‟s an opera of sorts, all this, isn‟t it; an opera of the everyday.
EUGENE: Look at that woman talking to that dog. So intent, what can she be saying?
BRON: Are you going to get a move on, or do I have to tell your Daddy?‟
EUGENE: And those two old dears...
BRON: Oh they are always droning on.
EUGENE: What is that man doing. Why is he walking like that?
BRON: Avoiding the cracks in the pavement and there is another one going by mumbling to himself.
EUGENE: The idiosyncrasies of reality, eh?
BRON: Yes day to day quirks of ordinary people, or, the mise en scene of madness.
