And you thought you were standing still

It is the presence of matter (the Sun) which distorts or warps the very fabric of space/time.
It is this distortion, this warpage which we  attribute to the forces of gravity.

Although the sun appears to exert a force of attraction, trapping it in its perpetual orbit, in reality there is no such force.

Instead the mass of the sun warps the surrounding space time into a valley like depression and the earth rolls round and round the rim of the valley-like depression (and you thought you were standing still) much like a marble in a bowl.
