People need a sacred narrative.
However much that 'sacred' narrative might be a tyranny,
Humans must have a sense of a larger purpose,
So from the neolithic to Plato's cave onwards the human
mind evolved to believe in the gods, the mystery that was
beyond our comprehension and to which we must
crook our knee. It may as it may be that human need did not evolve to believe in biology or astonomy, but look to the heavens tonight,
if it is a clear night, and just sense the vast indifference of infinity.
