Both being 'portly' gentlemen and of flamboyant rather

than workaday in character, extrodinary as it may seem,

they were both prepared to go to the top of a hill with their chums
 and be rolled down it for the fun of all. 


Now this is what I would call - to use a post modernist term, pure jouissance.
