Is this strike in the UK by teachers on behalf of the common good, or is it a demonstration of vulgar self-interest and proof that  their umbilical cords are tied to money? Discuss

In the UK we have in Michael Gove MP, what would seem to be a 'forward thinking' Education Minister.
Yet my experience of dealing with schools has been akin to dealing with a Medieval Monastery.

Information is denied one as if by right.  One is allowed a cursory 'Parents Evening' where you are nearly
trampled by the rush of parents gasping for the oxygen of information about their children.

Mr Gove now proposes in a draconian move to fine parents if they take a holiday with their children in term time. In my experience teachers are sticklers for attendance of pupils. There may be good will in this, but I suspect their is also a great deal of self interest, i.e attendance rates reflect well on the school and their finances

So as a first proposal to our Education Minister why does he not publish the absence rate of teachers, should they not also be fined for the paid absences they take on public money?
