David Deutsch (The Beginning of Infinity) points out that
death, from disease or old age, has
tremendous resonace in all cultures.
It also an unmatched reputation for
insolubility,(except among believers in the
supernatural). Death from old age or disease
it is taken to be the epitomy of insoluble
problems and the ageing process an insuperable
obstacle.
But Deutsch argues there is no rational basis for
this reputation. He maintains it is deeply parochial
to deem the problem of ageing insoluble.
