There is no present which is not informed by some image of some future
and the image of this future always presents itself in the form of a telos
(a variety of ends or goals) to which we are moving or failing to move to.
Unpredictability and teleology then coexist as part of our lives;
like characters in a novel, we do not know what will happen next,
nonetheless our lives have a certain form which projects itself towards
our future.
However there are always constraints on how our 'story' will continue,
yet within those con.straints there are indefinitely many ways that it can continue
