We are supine to the dangers of the gradual process of language normalisation. One grows up under the illusion that there is an entity out there, a kind of linguistic communism
Yet one cannot bring objectivity to bear on language, as if we were lighthouse keepers splaying our searchlight on what might become turbulent linguistic waters. The shortcoming of this kind of hubristic objectivism, is that it fails to reflect rigorously on its own conditions of possibility. After all the lighthouse is in the sea, we cannot stand on a rock and observe objectively as if we were momentarily on the outside, in the language game we are all on the inside and there is no outside
