What gives 'literature' its preeminence?

 In its heavy burden of 'content' which is milked in a social and cultural diagnosis

way -  the the 'critics' rather than concentrating on the properties of a novel, play

or Art work  the critics on first reading appear to be humanly obsolescent and don't

they talk a lot?
