Towards the end of the last century the view arose that all interactions

involved material things -this belongs to another century, we now know through physics etc which are not 'things' but are wholly

non material.

The stream of current knowledge is heading towards a non 

mechanical reality, it follows that the Universe begins to look

like a great thought rather than a great machine.
