.The selfiacation of contemporary art engagement

can we  ever draw a clear line between insiders and outsiders in a particular cultural groupWE ever draw a clear line between insiders and outsiders in a particular cultural group can WE ever draw a clear line between insiders and outsiders in a particular cultural group

Let's ENCOURAGE THE  museum goers to put on a kimono that was available on site and to take selfies in front of La Japonaise.

this is such a classic symptom of the way our society experiences art right now. Oh, we have this famous old painting, why don't you engage with it by taking a selfie in this freely available kimono

this kimono exhibit was really about authority around culture. Who gets to determine whether this is a case of cultural appropriation as the protestors believed, or a case of cultural appreciation as the counter protestors argued?

'Oh I am just channeling my inner Camille Monet...' Cringe

And so you have this complete divorcing of context, from the original painting
