Politicians blindly groping around in the underworld of ideas

 

having gusto is no equivalent for taste;

 Politicians might claim their views are like 

collections of valuable porcelain

however we must spare them some slack as they no doubt have been tutored in the unfavourable atmosphere

of the University; that is probably why they are still blindly groping around in the underworld of ideas 

    grandeur and spirit
