There is indeed currently culture wars being waged
but there is a rather cynical element to some new culture aims.
When today’s Left say AOC, Berni Sanders and in the UK that lapsed Woodwork Teacher Jeremy Corbyn, et al bombards the capitalist system with demands that it obviously cannot fulfill - Full employment! Green new deal, Welfare for all! Full rights for immigrants!
it is basically playing a game of hysterical provocation,of addressing the system/culture with demands that will be impossible for the system to meet, and will thus expose the
the impotence of that culture.
The problem with this strategy, however, is not only that the system cannot meet these demands, but that those who voice them do not really want them to be satisfied
When, for example,“radical”academics demand full rights for immigrants and the opening of borders to them, are they aware that the direct implementation of this demand would, for obvious reasons, inundate the developed Western countries with millions of newcomers, thus provoking a violent racist working-class backlash that would then endanger the privileged position of these very academics.
So they, AOC, Berni Sanders, Progressives, Academics, Liberals continue to voice their demands and in this way they can hypocritically retain their clear radical conscience while continuing to enjoy their privileged position.
Here the old soixante huitards ’68 French student motto “ Soyons réalistes, demandons l’impossible! Let us demand the impossible for it can never be realised.
So for Berni/AOC et al and their followers, their demands acquires a new cynical-sinister meaning which, perhaps, reveals a truth
“Let’s be realistic guys, we, the academics. the Left the Liberal elite, want to appear critical, while fully enjoying the privileges of the system we criticize.
Translated means: So let’s bombard the system with impossible demands:we all know that such demands won’t be met,so we can be sure that nothing will actually change, and we’ll maintain our privileged status quo.
